Todd Cordell: Balanced Attack?
- Todd.Cordell

Henrique is clearly to young to play in the top six... To me it would make much more sense to have for one henrique who still has room to grow as a player playing a bigger role and two have zubrus no where near the top six but I guess this is why we miss the play offs two years in a row...

Its the first organized team activities, lets not get all over excited. Look at how many different players and combinations we could use and try in camp. Once we get closer to the season im sure Zubrus will be moved down the lineup. However Clowe and Henrique didn't play bad together. Its just now who do you slot with them ? Another big body in Ruutu or some speed with Brunner. I just hope its not Ryder. As much as we complain about our roster and not replacing the 2 elite talents we lost our top two lines are servicable , however we do have alot of depth to use on those bottom 2 lines, which is good as that's what helped in 2012 when we rolled out our lower lines they were alot better then alot of other teams and created miss matches.

No way these lines stick. No Devil fan, or anyone with common sense, thinks Henrique won't be on that second line.

Todd, thoughts on seeing Gomez with Boucher today? Natural passer paired with a shoot-first guy? Looking to rekindle some of that Gomez-Mogilny magic?

You gotta think that Ryder is the forward Lou wants to move. I just don't see him as a fit on any of the possible line combinations and I don't think he fits PDB's coaching style. Not sure if there is a suitor though.

seems they're trying Zubs with Elias-Havlat. Zubrus has always worked well with Elias, but my guess is they're giving him an opportunity to show he can still hang, because last year he lost steam. Obviously, Henrique worked best with Elias last year (with Brunner on the right..). However, Clowe-Henrique-Ryder wasn't a bad line. Those 3 are all missing from the 1st group, maybe they're paired together in the next group.

read TG's article about the tryout D. Maybe they're not as far off as we thought. BUT, we can't sacrifice the kids, who aren't bad at all, for them. I wonder if we'll start with 8 dmen. The Russian said he'd be open to starting in the A; I think Lou will stash him there until needed.

lots of forwards.. lots of forwards.

We have 14 players attached to one way contracts, we are assuming he is waiting for Lou to move a player before a contract is given to him. However he did pay his own insurance and is in camp.

it's just.... the first practice.. of half the team. Gomez doesn't have the legs he had when playing with Mogilny.

I wish we could watch practices. We have all these preconceived notions about how all these tryouts will look based upon their recent history. Wish we could watch and see.

TG: Jagr camp has begun. After practice blue-red line and back with Zajac and Zubrus.

The guy is unbelievable. Love the leadership. His presence is something we sorely needed after Parise/Kovy leaving.

I actually like the sound of taking a gamble on this Russian D. Im not going to attempt to spell his name. However he hasn't been banged up and beaten to crap so maybe he's going to be a little bit later to the party like Zidlicky was. Sounds like he might have some decent offense attached to him however I worry how he stands up and handles the bigger more aggressive players in the NHL.

if thats the case, to me it seems pretty risky considering there are 29 other teams who can sign him at any point assuming all things being equal.

i just cant understand why he hasnt signed with anyone yet. seems like there is either a deal done-but-not-done with the devils or everyone else is just dropping the ball

I'm not expecting the same Gomez, nobody is. Just thought it was an interesting pairing.

And I'm not making another exact comparison here either, but we brought in Rafalski from Finland and plugged him in right away and we all saw how that worked. Not saying this Russian d-man is the next Rafalski, but that formula has worked for Lou before...

And yes, sign Carter. For an organization that doesn't necessarily appeal to all players, when was the last time somebody clearly wanted to play for us THIS badly? Guy has heart, grit, and brings it every night.

in the interview he referenced the lockout season when NHLers were playing in the KHL. He seemed confident that he handled them just fine. idk

Pretty sure it's just a case of Zubrus filling in for Henrique on the wing until he hits the ice.

Lol all of them but kaberle made it seem like they had other oppertunities and chose the devils because of what they have heard from former players but kaberle sounded like it was the only thing he had going on

I actually think it may be a good idea to have one big guy playing with Elias and Havlat. Third line would be Clowe - Henrique - ?

I'm not reading too much into it either, but if zubrus couldn't score on the first line last year what makes Pete think he will score on the second this year?

I think Gomez may still have some legs and could make for an interesting blend.

Lines Could looks something like this:

Cammi-Zajac-Jagr
Elias-Henrique-Havlat
Boucher-Gomez-Brunner
Zubrus-Gio-Ruutu
Extra - Bernier, Carter

This would mean trading Ryder for something. Probably late round pick unless he's packaged with someone else. Also, didn't include Clowe because I figured he's unfortunately hurt most of the year
